Agency Spotlight: ThompsonBaker Agency, St, Augustine and St. Johns County, FL

We know that in the world of insurance experience counts. That is why ThompsonBaker, our spotlight agency for July, proudly celebrated their 85th anniversary of serving the city of St. Augustine and St. Johns County in 2010. ThompsonBaker has even more reason to celebrate this year because agency principle Greg Baker received the Mitchell Stallings Award at the 109th FAIA convention in June recognizing over 40 years of outstanding service provided by Mr. Baker.

John Thomson and Harold Ryman founded ThompsonBaker in 1925. Since then, the agency has seen many changes and seized many opportunities. Both partners have retired but their memory is as important as the future to the current partners who worked their way up to fill their shoes.

Greg Baker made partner in 1970. Matt Baker, Greg’s son, and Dan Alexander, who were both born and raised in St. Augustine, became partners in 2002. In 2006, Greg’s Croatian son-in-law Alan Bratic became a partner in the financial side of the agency bringing an international savvy to the agency. Proud of their past and the knowledge of experience it brings with it ThompsonBaker is ready for a future full of opportunity.

This year is ThompsonBaker’s 10th anniversary with Frontline Insurance. When asked about the relationship Chairman Greg Baker said, “Our Partnership with Frontline started at the inception of the company and we value our relationship with them. They have top tier personnel and as a company are able to address the unique challenges of the Florida marketplace for the benefit of our customers and our agency.”

In addition to the homeowner policies with Frontline, ThompsonBaker also provides commercial insurance and financial services primarily to the people of St. Augustine and St. John’s County. However, they will write a policy for anywhere in the state of Florida.

They are highly active in local business groups, such as FAIA, St. John’s Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary just to name a few. However, their community service does not end there. ThompsonBaker is well-known as an agency that gives back to the community through a variety of civic and philanthropic organizations. On staff at ThompsonBaker, through the years, have been two mayors, multiple Flagler Hospital trustees, Rotary and Kiwanis presidents, Boy Scout leaders and St. John’s County Chamber of Commerce board members.

ThompsonBaker is a business, but it is also a team. As such, they support and value their employees. They enjoy celebrating at a lunch-in when they meet goals and take a day every year for continued education. However, this team mentality is shown best via the participation in Relay for Life and Pink up the Pace in support for an employee that was diagnosed with cancer.

It is no wonder with this dedication to excellence and the community that ThompsonBaker has been marked as a quality agency for over 85 years. Their knowledge of insurance and the community come together to allow them to serve the people of St. Augustine and St. John’s county in the unique needs that come with living in Florida that has earned them their place in the spotlight this month.
